Recycling Idol

The “Recycling Idol” competition held on December 6, 2012 was a hybrid modeled on American Idol and Dragon’s Den. After a great round of pitches from our recycling technology finalists to a panel of cleantech experts, the audience got a chance to choose the winner. The winner of the 2012 Recycling Idol competition was Tyromer Inc. Congratulations to Sam Visaisouk and his team!

Our 4 Finalists were:

B&R Custom Machining Limited

B&R clean 20% of contaminated “tire wire” into 2 recycled products: steel and rubber. The company has completed it’s 12th year in business. They receive used oil filters, and process them into recyclable steel and oil through “crushing.” Situated over 25 000 square feet, their broad and diverse capabilities are purposed to make parts quickly, while focusing on good quality.

Blue Mountain Plastics

Blue Mountain Plastics is a “closed loop” PET plastic recycling operation located in Shelburne, Ontario. Curbside collected PET bottles and clamshells are processed from bales into food-grade FDA/CFIA approved rPET pellets which are then used at levels of up to 100% in water bottles produced by parent company, Ice River Springs Water Co. Ice River Springs Water Co. was the first beverage company in North America to “self manufacture” rPET for its own use.
