Google Now, the tech giant’s answer to Siri, just updated its Now on Tap app to add text selection and image search features, Google recently announced. With the app’s new features, you can use voice control to highlight a word or phrase on a page and pull up additional information about the selected text. The new feature also allows you to use your voice to call up information related to an image you’re viewing on your screen.
These new features are useful for consumers and they also add to the range of functionality that Google Now offers business users. Here are some ways you can use Google Now to make your life easier.
One particular Google Now function you will find useful is calendar scheduling. To activate this feature on your smartphone or on a smartwatch like the Samsung Gear S2, simply tell Google Now you want to create a calendar event for a specific location, date and time. The Google Now on Tap app can also use information you’re viewing on your screen to create a “card” and suggest you create a calendar event related to what’s on the card.
By clicking the card, Google Now can open your default calendar program so you can enter and adjust the details. You can also import a calendar event from your Gmail account into a Google Now card and choose to export the event to your calendar program.
Google Now also makes it easier for you to plan an itinerary for business trips. Google Now integrations enable you to create cards for using travel-related websites, including Kayak, Lyft and Easy Taxi. Quickly access flight status information by entering a flight number and calling up a flight card. Make dinner reservations by using Google Now with the OpenTable app to call up a card for a restaurant you’re viewing online.
Google Now features reminders that integrate with your calendar app so you can receive reminders for business meetings, deadlines and other important events. Access the reminder feature by tapping on a menu or by saying, “Remind me . . .” and describe the reminder, date and time. Set reminders so they get triggered when you reach a certain location, such as your office parking lot. You can also set up recurring reminders for regularly-scheduled events.
Another way to use Google Now is to track packages being shipped to your business. To activate this feature, simply tap on your order from the confirmation email, or visit the website that lists your tracking number. Google Now will then display a card with information about where your package is located and its expected arrival time.
Leverage Power of Third-party Apps
To leverage the power of Google Now for your business, you can use it as a shortcut for accessing Google Apps for Work, along with select third-party apps. You can also use Google Now with third-party apps for voice control management of various tasks.
