Starting Lean: Value Proposition
(2 sessions – first session 8 hours, second session 4 hours)
Entrepreneur’s Toolkit Workshops are experiential, hands-on workshops facilitated by experienced entrepreneurs. The workshops offer ventures tools, mentoring and peer feedback to solve specific problems and develop essential business components.
In each session you will generate a deliverable that you will use frequently in the business development process.
Do you have an idea or a product that you would like to turn into a business?
This 2-part workshop series is designed to help early-stage ventures understand the Lean Startup approach and learn ways to start collecting feedback from potential customers.
The tools and frameworks covered in the workshop will help you to lower the risk associated with launching your new product or business.
Our approach will also help new ventures to better understand how sales and marketing activities can be organized to land the first customers.
Session 1 – Preparing to leave the building
May 4, 2018
9:00am to 5:00pm
Establish a process to clarify and test key assumptions you have about your business and lower your ventures overall risk.
Deliverable: Overview of the Lean Startup approach and a tested interview guide based on the venture’s most important foundational assumptions.
Session 2 – Refining your customer development
May 11, 2018
9:00am to 1:00pm
In this second part, each participant will focus on improving what is typically the hardest step for entrepreneurs, leaving behind their idea or solution. In this session, ventures learn about the customer situation without pitching their solution. Using the techniques learned in Session 1, this second step helps hone abilities in three dimensions through open peer appraisal of the discovery interview process, a clear identification of the critical business assumptions and validation and interpretation of customer learning.
Deliverable: A solid customer interviewing technique that can be used continually through the course of a new business development.
The value proposition is a statement that reflects a new venture’s most fundamental decisions, including target customer, problem to be solved and which product solution to offer.
This session will focus on the data obtained from customer interviews to help increase your understanding of your target customer and determine your value proposition.
Entrepreneurs will learn how to synthesize customer feedback into a value proposition.
Deliverable: A framework and template for determining your value proposition.
Doors will open at 8:30am for networking. Sessions begin at 9:00am.
